Let’s be honest— when we first started exploring the chakras, finding truly grounded info on the Root Chakra was surprisingly hard. Some sources were too abstract, others skipped the physicality altogether. So we created this page to bring it all together: the meaning, the body connection, and the soul-level insight. If you're feeling ungrounded or in need of stability, this guide to the Root Chakra is your invitation to reconnect with the earth beneath you and the strength within you.
"Cultivate the root and the leaves and branches will take care of themselves." – Confucius
The Root Chakra, or Muladhara, is located at the perineum—between the genitals and the anus. This is where your life force energy begins. Think of it as your energetic anchor to the Earth.
“Muladhara” comes from Sanskrit, translating as "that which holds the base." When activated, this chakra awakens your survival instincts, grounds your energy, and aligns you with your primal sense of being.
This is the root of your Kundalini energy—your life force—and the foundation of your physical and emotional security. When in balance, it supports your deepest potential for safety, self-trust, and vitality.
Fear, abandonment, disconnection from community, and unresolved trauma may cause Root Chakra blockages. Symptoms include:
Grounding, earthy oils are ideal for balancing the Root Chakra. We recommend:
Blend with a carrier like fractionated coconut oil and apply to the base of the spine. Or simply diffuse to anchor your energy in the present moment.
Lay your chosen crystal at the base of your spine for 3–5 minutes, or create a gemstone elixir by bathing your stone in moonlight or sunlight in fresh water.
These gems help realign your base chakra with a sense of grounded energy and strength.
To enhance chakra meditation, align with these planetary energies through visualisation or journaling, allowing subconscious insight to arise naturally.
Ruby Red is the vibrational color of the Root Chakra. Envision a glowing ball of red light pulsing at your tailbone—steady, powerful, and alive.
This visualization strengthens your energetic connection to Earth and supports deep-rooted courage, clarity, and confidence.
Mantra: “I am Connected, I am Safe, All is One.”
Repeat this mantra silently six times while focusing on your root. Inhale and exhale deeply as you visualize prana circulating through a radiant red vortex at your base.
Seed Sound: LAM (Keynote C Major)
Chant LAM aloud for 1–4 minutes while visualizing your Root Chakra as a vibrant spinning red wheel. This clears blockages and activates foundational strength.
Using your right middle finger, gently touch the Gateway Holding Point—either at the base of your spine or pubic bone—for 1–4 minutes.
Move in a counter-clockwise circle to release energy. Switch to clockwise when ready to recharge and energize the chakra.
Breathe deeply as you visualize rainbow-colored prana circulating and cleansing your chakra space.
"I give thanks for being one with all of life."
As you close your practice, affirm:
"I am one with all of life NOW and FOREVER. I AM SAFE."
