Rose Pure Essential Oil

Rose essential oil requires more raw material than almost any other oil in the category. Approximately 3,500–5,000kg of Rosa damascena petals — harvested by hand, before dawn, during a narrow two to four week window in May — yield a single kilogram of oil. The economics of that process make adulteration not just common but almost structurally inevitable at the price points most brands sell at. Synthetic phenylethyl alcohol, geranium oil, and palmarosa are the most frequent adulterants — all cheap, all detectable with proper testing, all routinely present in oils sold as genuine rose.

A separate distinction worth understanding: Rose Otto and steam-distilled rose are different products from the same plant. Rose Otto is produced at lower temperatures and captures a different, more delicate fraction of the volatile compounds — it's the variety used in fine perfumery and commands a significantly higher price. What we offer here is steam-distilled Rosa damascena from the Bulgarian Valley of Roses — a different profile, more therapeutically robust, with higher citronellol and geraniol content. Citronellol, geraniol, and nerol — the primary compounds in steam-distilled Rosa damascena — are well-documented for anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity at the skin level, and for their effect on the nervous system via inhalation. The scent itself is complex in a way that's difficult to approximate synthetically, which is partly why genuine rose oil remains the benchmark for floral perfumery after centuries of alternatives.
