Autumn is nearly here, and for me that means one thing: harvest season. So many of the plants I love are coming into harvest around now, so here's a little peek at what's happening in the fields.
Late-autumn grasses and leaves
In many tropical and subtropical growing regions, late October brings the final harvest flush for aromatic leaves and grasses like Patchouli and Citronella, right before the dry, cool season arrives. Lemongrass is Citronella's close grassy cousin. Patchouli is rich and earthy, Lemongrass is bright and lemony, and Citronella is fresh and green.
Earthy autumn roots
In early autumn, farmers start digging up aromatic roots like Vetiver and Ginger. Roots need time to mature through the warm months, so their essential oil yields peak before winter. Vetiver is deep, smoky and grounding, and Ginger is warm and spicy. Very cosy autumn oils.
